Cheesecake? I would Love Some!

~~ 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV84) ~~   “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”

Cheesecake with Fruit Filling
Ever notice how some things in life seem to be a ‘given’?  I mean there really is no decision to be made in some situations.  You just know what you want without even thinking about whether it is right or wrong; good or bad for you.  I was planning a huge party once.  I was at the caterer’s office with the person who was planning this ‘shin-dig’ with me.  We discussed the menu particulars and decided that roasted chicken would be the main entre, with potatoes and vegetables.  After we finalized the details of the appetizers and dinner, the next item on the list was dessert.  The lady told us that our choices were apple pie with ice cream or cheesecake.  My partner and I both looked at each other for what must have been a whole... 3 seconds.  We did not say a single word to each other, and then we both looked at the woman across the table from us and we said in unison ‘cheesecake’.  It was just a given.  There was no choice to be made for either of us.  Why would anyone ever want to turn down cheesecake?

If there is any one dessert to be served to us one day in heaven, I have no doubt that it is cheesecake (with raspberry filling and drizzled with chocolate)!  OK, so that triggers the next thought.  If this incredible morsel is so absolutely heavenly than why is it sinfully delicious?!  Isn’t that a contradiction?  Could it be that cheesecake is just one of my weakest temptations?  Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between something really awesome and God-sent, and something that is a temptation from the enemy.  Appeal is the part that makes temptations so tempting.  If it was not for the appeal, it would not have any hold on us.  Whether you are a new Christian or someone who is very well ‘seasoned’, you will always have struggles with temptations in your life.  It is a guarantee that Satan will always use our weakest points, and in our weakest moments, to dangle that proverbial ‘big carrot’ in front of us.  Of course; ‘carrots’, for the average person are not tempting.  That is why the enemy chooses something equivalent to chocolate or cheesecake that is almost impossible for us to walk away from.  Then he will whisper in your ear “Just one time will not change your whole life”; or “No one will know, we just won’t tell anyone.”, “What’s the big deal, it’s not like anyone will get hurt”.

When we succumb to temptation then we have sinned against God.  The good news, though, is that temptation in itself is not a sin.  It is when we make the decision to willingly reach out and take that dangling chocolate we are committing a sin.  How are we to handle it when we are looking at temptations straight in the face?  Well, first we have to recognize that what we are looking at is a sin.  Anything that goes against the Word of God is a sin.  The Bible tells us that God will never allow us to be exposed to a temptation that we are unable to carry ourselves.  It also says that He will always provide a way out.  (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV84)  Therefore, when we sin it is always because we freely chose self-gratification over God.  How do we turn away from temptation?  First, we need to pray about it.  Ask God to lift this burden if it is in His will to do so, or for help to get through it.  (Psalm 55:22 NIV84)  Next, know God’s Word; as it is the best weapon we have at our disposal to fight with.  (Hebrews 4:12 NIV84)  It will guide us on what to do to get around the temptation and it will help us win the battle.  Also, praise God and thank Him for the struggle (Ephesians 5:20 NIV84) because He uses all things for our own good, and to show His awesome grace and mercy (Romans 8:28 NIV84).  Finally, for the extra reinforcement we need accountability.  If you do not have an accountability partner, you need to have one.  This is someone to whom you are accountable that will help you stay on the ‘straight and narrow’.  (James 5:16 NIV84)  For the times when we do reach out and take that ‘chocolate’ treat being offered to us; we are to confess, repent, and ask His forgiveness... ASAP!

Are there little things in your life that have the potential to lead to big temptations?  Telling ourselves “Just one piece of cake cannot hurt that much” in a state of weakness can lead to gluttony.  If food is your weakness, you must recognize it and be strong enough to say “No thanks” the next time someone offers you that extra treat.  Just like saying “We are just chatting and flirting online.  We are not hurting anyone” in a state of weakness can lead to adultery or sex outside marriage.  If the opposite sex is your weakness, than you need to restrict yourself from situations that may be too much for you to handle.  Or, maybe you look at your neighbour and think “I wish I had a house and a car like Jimmy”.  This is envy.  Next time you see someone with ‘better’ or more of something than you, count your blessings.  No matter how much, or little, you have; there are those who have less than you do.  Maybe, despite Jimmy’s ‘wonderful’ life; he is ‘up to his ears’ in debt, or he may be so lonely that he cries himself to sleep every night.  The list of temptations is endless.  What are yours?  What is God asking you to do to head them off?

Just like my friend and I cannot resist cheesecake; I know there are things that you feel are irresistible as well.  Turn to Jesus and ask Him to help.  Do not listen to those lies by the enemy.  Someone will indeed get hurt... you!  Someone does know... God!  He has already given us a way out of our struggle.  We just have to listen to what He is telling us and follow Him.

I have been thinking.  Cheesecake really should be a food group all on its own!  I wonder if Canada’s Food Guide takes suggestions for future adjustments.

~~ Dear God ~~  I thank You for the path that You are leading me on; for the struggles that I battle with.  They are the things that are helping me build my strength and my faith that are helping me to become more like Jesus.  Please help me to always hear your voice and Your instructions when I am battling with temptations.  Thank You for the options that You give me that help me avoid taking that extra piece of cheesecake or chocolate in my weakest moments.  With each and every lie that the enemy whispers in my ear help me to remember the appropriate scripture verse from Your Word that will him.  Thank You, Father, for the wonderful grace and mercy that You have given me, that I do not deserve.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

The Perfect Masterpiece

~~ Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) ~~  From the Life Application Bible ~~  We are God’s masterpiece (work of art, workmanship).  Our salvation is something only God can do.  It is his powerful, creative work in us.  If God considers us his masterpieces, we dare not treat ourselves or others with disrespect or as inferior work.

Are you a creative person?  Maybe you do some sort of art work; painting, sculpting, pottery.  Perhaps your talent lies in music; and you are a musician or a singer.  Then again, you might be a designer; of clothes, houses, gardens, cars, teddy bears, or graphics.  Possibly you are a writer, or an architect.  Even if you are none of these, or you feel that you have no creative talent, I think that everyone knows what it feels like to put your whole self into something you are doing.  You work hard on a project.  Every part of your being; mind, body, and soul goes into it.  For me, when I am writing I can completely forget about the world and not even be aware of what is going on around me.  There are other projects that I have worked on that kept me focused on one thing for weeks at a time.  Often, I am even at the point where I forgot to eat because the only thing on my mind is this one mission.

How did you feel once you completed your vision, or accomplished a goal?  It is an incredibly awesome feeling, isn’t it?!  To know that I created a masterpiece brings a feeling that I can only describe as fulfilling.  Its existence came about from something that started as just a thought in my brain.  I find that to be a fascinating concept.  A painting... did not exist, now it does.  A book, or a song, or a building, or a dress; started simply as a notion in someone’s mind.  Then it was developed into an idea, followed by a plan, and then the work to create it.  It is enough to make one feel incredibly proud.  You might even say you love it, since you put your whole heart into it.  It is called ‘good workmanship’ or ‘taking pride in what you do’.

Now, imagine how you would feel after completing the biggest project of your life that took you days, weeks, or years of your time working on.  You put all your blood, sweat and tears into this venture.  Visualize that this project was something that would change the life of your family, city, or county for the better.  Maybe you built a new house for your family with your own bare hands.  Perhaps, you helped design a new building for low-rental housing in your own community.  Possibly you wrote a hit song to raise a lot of money that will help benefit hungry people in your own country.  Now, picture the person you love the most in this world... the person you would give your life, literally, to protect.  Imagine this person showing up with a group of their friends and destroying your masterpiece, without a good reason for doing so.  It does not even sound logical, does it?  Why would someone you love, and who loves you, do that to you?  The new house that you built was burned to the ground; or that new low-rent high-rise was levelled, or the only copies of that potential hit song have been erased.  The only explanation you got from the person who did this was something like “I thought it would be fun”.  How would you feel?  It would be like a knife in your gut.  Your life’s work; all the resources, energy, work and sweat that you put into this work of genius.... all for nothing.  It would be devastating.  Personally, I would feel angry and betrayed just to start with.

Well, guess what?!  That is exactly what we are all doing to God’s masterpiece!  He created this world to be the perfect place for us to live in harmony with Him.  Then, before the planet was even populated, we walked in and wrecked the place!  Almost immediately the laws that He put in place for it to operate properly were broken.  We succumbed to temptation and willingly sinned.  Not only that, but we continue to do it.  We change God’s laws, as if we know what we are doing, to suit our own purposes; and have the gall to call them ‘good’ because ‘the times are changing’.  Then, to top it all off we do things that are slowly and continually helping to destroy, not only the planet but our own bodies as well.  Dangerous gases are allowed to flow into the atmosphere.  All sorts of electronic waves are filling up the environment around us.  Garbage and chemicals are being dumped into the earth.  The worlds resources are being used without thoughts of replenishment, as if there will be no tomorrow.  Governments and big business make laws based on profit; not on what is best for the people, the earth, or our future.  We drop bombs on things and people just to prove which country is the ‘toughest kid on the block’.  We continually pollute our minds with all sorts of filth, which is all around us.  Our bodies are slowly dying, because we eat things that our body was not designed to consume.  We over-process the life out of our food supply by filling it with medications, chemicals, preservatives, and hormones.  We are killing ourselves and the earth.

Much of humanity does not realize it, but justice must be done.  We broke God’s laws and damaged creation.  By God’s very nature, He cannot be in the presence of sin.  We are all sinful.  He loves us and wants to be with us, so ths issue must be reconciled.  We have to be made aware of the magnitude of the harm we have caused, and then be held accountable.  In God’s court we are guilty of a lot of serious crimes.  Not one of us can be found innocent.  Romans 3:23 tells us that “...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.

However, all is not lost because there is hope!  We are blessed because we do not have to worry about paying a big fine, or doing jail time.  Our sentence has already been taken care of.  We have a wonderful Friend who loves us so much that He was willing to take our place; pay our fines and do our jail time for us.  His name is Jesus.  Invite Him into your heart to be your saviour, and He will be your Friend too!  He lived a perfect sinless life.  Then He willingly went through a horrible death; taking our place upon the cross in the sentence that was ruled for us.  But, Jesus conquered death and rose again.  He is alive today.  Without Jesus, you will have to pay your own fine and do your own jail time.  Jesus is the only possible way out of this sentence (John 14:6 NIV84).  He loves you so much, that even if you were the only one; He would have done this for you anyway!  How awesome is that?!  How could anyone not want Him as a friend?  Even though we walked away from God and damaged His wonderful masterpiece He forgives us.  That is because, He loves us and He can fix it.

~~ Dear God ~~  Your word says that You are the Potter, and we are the clay (Isaiah 64:8 NIV84).  Please mold me, shape me, and make me into a masterpiece that You can be proud of.  Please forgive me for all my many sins that contribute to the destruction of the world, my mind and my body.  Please teach me how to live a healthy life so that I am not disrespecting You, myself, other people, or the earth.  Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus; to pay the penalty for my crimes to You.  Do not ever let a day go by in my life when I am not thankful for this incredible gift.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

You know those moments when you think “what in the world was I thinking?”   Everyone has those at some point or another.  I was thinking about some of these things earlier.  There are just way too many times when I spoke without thinking first, or when I jumped without looking, pressed ‘send’ on my email without thinking about what the result would be.  Sometimes I have to wonder if I have the common sense that God gave a gold fish.  Would you believe that I was absent from class that day when they covered the ‘rational’ chapter?!  Never mind... I didn’t think so.  I guess you would need the common sense of a gold fish to believe that!

Anyway, this post is a little more ‘light hearted’ than the others.  I thought I would share with you some silly things that I’ve done in my life and the lessons I have learned from them.  I have:

  • put rice cakes in the toaster.  Note to self: Rice cakes can be flammable.
  • filled the washer with laundry and put the water level on minimum instead of maximum (twice).  Note to self: Too many clothes with not enough water will burn out the motor (every time!)
  • vacuumed hot embers from the fireplace hearth.  Note to self: Hot embers inside a vacuum filled with dust are also flammable... and can damage the vacuum cleaner too!
  • set a plate of food on the coffee table.  Note to self: The coffee table is within doggie reach.
  • set a wet paint project on the floor to dry.  Note to self: Don’t get mad at the dog when wet-paint puppy prints end up all over the project and the floor!  It’s a good thing it was in the garage!
  • drank too much vodka.  Note to self: Bad stuff happens when you drink vodka... ‘nuff said!
  • took photos at wrong times.  Note to self: When the lay-z-boy chair tips over backwards, stop laughing and taking photos, and help BF up off the floor.  (For those who are not 100% computer literate, BF means Boyfriend)
  • tried to be the ‘perfect housewife’.  Note to self: With issues such as; flooding the kitchen, not being able to figure out how to turn on the vacuum cleaner, and fires on the stove (once or twice... well, ok, ok... quite a few times) it means you are not Martha Stewart and you likely never will be.  Accept it!
  • tried to make oatmeal – the old fashioned way.  Note to self: Oatmeal is not that hard to do!!... but when the dog refuses to eat it, something did not go right.
  • rescued a kitten from inside a heating duct.  Note to self: Even 8 week old kittens have claws sharp enough to shred an arm.  Reminder to self: Next time you rescue a kitten, wear thick clothing for protection.
OK... I hope you had a good laugh at some of those things; but, seriously, I bet you also did some silly things.  Please share them with me in the comment section below.

~~ Dear God ~~    Please forgive me for all the times I have ‘jumped before I looked’, ‘spoke without thinking’, ‘acted without using the intelligence you gave me’.  Thank You for being there to protect me and rescue me each time I end up in a mess.  Oh, and one more thing, Lord.  I am so happy that You do not keep a count, because I am sure that the number of times I have fowled things up are at a very high number.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

Have you ever felt like you are not good enough for God?  Well, guess what?!  You are not.  But, wait... before you click on the close button, let me tell you that there is good news!  The good news is that God does not care what kind of fiasco that you got yourself into this time.  He loves you anyway!

Non-Christians often think that Christians have to live a perfect life; that they have never gone down an ugly road in life, that they do not know ‘real suffering’, or that we think that we are ‘higher up’ than others.  Many non-Christians think that they have messed up too much for there to be any hope for them.  They do not turn to God for help because they believe that the things they have done are unforgivable.  As Christians we are very well aware of the fact that we are not perfect.  It is because of how badly we messed up our lives that we need Jesus.  Think about that for a minute... we have botched things so badly that only the creator of the universe can get us out of the mess we’re in.  That is some pretty nasty stuff!

Christians are also aware that we will continue to be imperfect as long as we are in this world.  This is part of our sinful nature.... the nature of all people.  We just cannot help it.  No one has escaped this fate.  In God’s eyes it does not matter if you told a ‘little white lie’, if you robbed a little old lady on the street, or if you raped or killed someone.  Sin is sin!  Romans 3:23 (NIV84) tells us that ‘all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God’.

For me, sometimes, this sin comes in the form of doubting God, or forgetting a lesson that He has taught me already.  Sometimes it is a lesson that He’s taught me a hundred times before now.  When Satan starts whispering in my ear that ‘I am just a lost cause’, or ‘I have gone way to far this time’, or ‘This definitely has to be the one unforgiveable sin’; sometimes I start to believe him.  As a Christian I am aware that this is not true.  Isaiah 1:18 (ESV) tells us that “The Lord says, now, let's settle the matter.  You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow.  Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool.”  The thing about God is, that no matter how many times I start to think that I am not worthy, He will always find a way to make sure I get the message, again, that He loves me, that I am forgiven... for everything!

I was thinking, again, recently that I had failed God beyond hope.  However, He made sure that I was present for a service at a church that I had never gone to before.  First, there were 2 people who told their stories about extreme sin (involving horrible crimes they had done and that were done to them).  They told us how they survived unbelievable circumstances.  God not only brought them through it, He forgave them for their sins and, now, leads them to tell their stories to people like me who tend to doubt so that we can see what He has done for other people.  Then, the sermon preached told me that I am important to God.  I am a ‘somebody’ in His eyes.  My sins are forgiven.... all of them, even the ones that I think are just way too bad to be forgiven.  God said “"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more."  Isaiah 43:25 (NIV84)  That is right, He forgives us and then forgets about the sin completely!  It is over, done, removed, erased, gone, pardoned, forgotten... forgiven!

God finds many ways to give me these messages each and every time I need to hear them.  Sometimes it’s through a bible verse that jumps off the page at me; or through a book, devotional message or an article I am reading; or through a comment that I hear someone say, or through something I may see on TV or on the street.  God will talk to you in the ‘language’ that you understand; in ways that will be obvious to you, which may not be the same way as he talks to your friend, your child, or your spouse.  You will know it is Him when what you hear agrees with His Word.  If it is contradictory to the Bible, it is not God speaking to you.  So... you, reading this... the one that thinks ‘well, she’s not talking to me because my sin is way too bad’... I am talking to you!  God forgives you!  He loves you!  Nothing... absolutely nothing... you have done or will do can make Him stop loving you.  All you have to do is invite Jesus into your heart and ask for forgiveness, and it’s yours!  It’s a free gift; you just have to take it.

You know those moments when you hear something that you have heard a 1000 times before but, for some reason, this time it hits you in a whole new light?  It feels like you suddenly understand something you thought you have understood your whole life, but apparently you haven’t.  I love those moments, especially when I know it is a message from God.  Each time it feels like the first time I am hearing it.  It feels like incredibly exciting news... and it is!

~~Dear God~~ Thank you for never giving up on me no matter how often or how badly I mess up.  Thank You for Your forgiveness each ‘first time’ that You have to teach me an important lesson; and thank You for sacrificing Jesus to save me.  Please help me to hear Your voice when you are talking to me, and guide my every step so that I will walk closer to You every day.  Please give me Your strength fight the enemy when he is trying to lead me astray.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

Here’s a song by Jason Gray called “First Time Again”.  Listen to the lyrics.  It’s awesome.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.  "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.  "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.  One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.  The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."  The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"  The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

I like stories like this one about the old Cherokee.  Someone sent that one to me in an email.  Such tales are good food for thought.

It is as old as the world itself; the fight of good versus evil.  The very first people God ever created ended up in a mess with sin almost from day one.  Have you ever wondered what the world would be like now, who you would be, what your life would be like today if Eve did not eat that apple?  That is, assuming it was an apple.  The bible does not tell us what type of fruit it was; but that could be a subject for another blog.  Why couldn’t Eve decide to snack on oranges or grapes that day?  Did it really have to be an apple after God clearly said “No” to the apple tree?

No person has ever been able to avoid the battle with Satan and his demonic entourage.  (Romans 3:23)  It is in our nature to want to be sinful.  There is something that we find exciting in temptation.  We want what we cannot have, and have a desire to break the rules just because we can.  (Ephesians 2:3)  He gave us free will to choose, yet we always want to choose what is not good for us.  Even after we have learned a lesson, we still choose sin.  Why is that?

God allows us to go through these battles to teach us.  Without these conflicts we could not possibly know what good is.  If you never had a stormy day, how would you know just how great a sunny day really is?  If you gave your child everything s/he wanted the child would never learn that some things are bad.  It is the very nature of the struggle itself that gives us the opportunity to learn; and to build strength, character, courage, love, hope, humility and faith.  If you never had your heart broken, how would you know and appreciate a great love when you found it?  How would we know just how glorious God’s love is for us?  That, after all, is the point... to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus so we can get closer to God.

So it seems that Eve did have to eat the apple that day.  Without it, she, and therefore us, would never understand just how great God’s love is for us.  It is only by being apart from Him, through sin, that we can realize how vast His love and mercy for us really is.  At some point though we have to stop choosing what is not good for us.  We have to feed the ‘good wolf’.  We have to start choosing God.  Listen to that old Cherokee and his great wisdom.

~~Dear God~~ Show me when I am about to choose to feed the bad wolf.  Please give me the desire to always do Your will, and do not let a single lesson that I learn from You be lost.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

Do you ever wonder about your own belief system?  What I mean is; how do you know that what you know as reality is actually ‘The Truth’?  What is the foundation for what you ‘know’?  Is it your own judgement?  How do you know that you can trust your own perception?  If your reality is a deception, then it is not possible for you to be aware that you are being misled.  It is only by being outside of that experience that you can see the whole picture.

I suffer from Bipolar Disorder and Major Depression.  I do not try to hide that because it is not something to be embarrassed about, despite the attitude of a large percentage of society.  A cancer patient would not be ashamed to have to go for chemotherapy, just as a diabetic would not be humiliated to have blood sugar levels out of whack.  They may be scared, frustrated, angry, or any number of other emotions; but there is no need for shame.  They did not ask for these health issues.  Mental health issues are the result of physical issues within the brain.  It is not a choice, a sin, a crime, a weakness, or a character flaw.

During the worst of my bipolar episodes, confusion often will set in.  I start to doubt many things.  My trust in anything and everything goes out the window.  I have even doubted and been confused about the circumstances that I see happening around me.  This is a terrifying place to be; especially when one feels alone in the world, which I often do.  This is a misperception, of course, but at the time it is as real as the trees, the sky and the wind around me.  I argue that it is true.  It is not until the incident is over that I am aware of what is genuine; that I have many people who love me.

I read an article recently by a newspaper that has a mission to tell the ‘Truth’; yet all the articles within are anti-Christian / anti-religious and they very proudly support sinful living.  What do they base their evidence of ‘Truth’ on?  Mine is based on the solid Word of God.  Through all of the confusion that I have suffered there is one ‘truth’ that I have never doubted even for an instant.  This is the fact that Jesus is The Truth.  He told us that “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me “.   Sometimes I wonder; whose reality is more clouded?

~~ Dear God ~~ Thank You for the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus so that we may be with You in Your glorious kingdom.  Please do not let me ever forget this reality.  For all those who have not yet seen the veil lifted, please show them the Light so that they may be led out of the darkness and see the Truth.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

The First Post

Well, here I am.  After weeks of working to set up this site and problem after problem causing me to have to start from scratch several times, I am ready for the first post.  My first thought was, what should the number one post be about?  I did some research; and got answers such as 'who you are, what is your story, and why are you here', among other things.  Sounds like common sense after you have been given the answer, doesn't it?  Then I started thinking 'but that's the basic information in the About page'.  Why would I want to tell you the same things twice?  Ah, but it's not twice because here and now I get to tell you a little more detail.

First - Who am I?

Since I started going to the church I attend 2 yeas ago, I have learned, for the first time, exactly who I am.  One of the first times I went there they gave me a bookmark that told me who I am.  As a matter of fact the title is "Who am I?".  Since then I have come to understand that I am royalty.  I am a daughter of the King; a child of the living God who created the universe.  See, according to God's Word, I am:

Second - What's my story?

In a nut shell my story is this: I am a sinner.  I am someone who messed up so badly and got myself into such a mess that only God, Himself, can get me out of it.  I needed help to bail me out of my dire circumstances, so I called on my Father.  I did that after years of not being close to Him or listening to anything He had to say to me.  Kinda 'nervy' now that I think about it.  After all, He had every right to send me away.  He had every right to walk away from me and leave me in that dark prison; and to find my own way out.

This well known poem by Carol Wimmer sums it up nicely:

When I Say that "I am Christian"

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I’m not shouting “I’m clean livin’.”
I’m whispering “I was lost,
Now I’m found and forgiven.”

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak
And need His strength to carry on.

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my
mess.

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say… “I am a Christian”
I’m not holier than thou,
I’m just a simple sinner
Who received God’s good grace, somehow.

Third - Why am I here?

God has called each of us to praise Him and to share His Word.  I'm here to tell you my story, but I'm also here to tell you that God wants to do the same thing for you that He did for me.  See, even though God has every right to walk away and leave me in prison; He did not do that.  Instead, He bailed me out of hell; literally.  The good news is that we do not have to stay in prison.  He sent His only Son, Jesus, to pay my fine.  Our bail has been paid and the judge has thrown out the case.  Jesus died for me; defeated death and hell; and brought me back home.  Awesome Father, huh?!  I am going home and He has this awesome place already and waiting for me to live with Him.  That is so cool!

This great gift does come with a catch though.  That is, you have to willingly accept it.  You do that by asking Him to forgive you and then inviting His Son, Jesus, into your heart and allow Him be your Savior.  Then you have to believe, have faith; and follow Him in every thing you say, think and do.

God wants you to know that He thinks you are awesome!   He loves you so much and He misses you so badly that He does not care how terribly you have messed up.  He just wants you to live with Him forever.  He wants to live with you every day in this world.  He wants to be part of your life, your home, your family, all your decisions... everything.

If you have never invited Jesus into your life before; you can do it now, right where you are in front of your computer screen with this prayer.

~~ Dear God ~~ I want to know you personally.  I know that I have done wrong and I am sorry.  I am willing, with your help, to turn away from my sins and turn to you.  I believe, Jesus, that you died and rose again for me.  Please come into my life.  I receive you as my Saviour and Lord, as best as I know how, right now. AMEN.

Once you have prayed this prayer from your heart, contact a local bible-based church in your local area and speak with a pastor and tell him / her about your decision. They will help guide you in your next steps.

If you did say this prayer from your heart for the first time because of something I have said here, than that is why I am here.

Here's a video with people like you and me reciting the poem "When I Say that I Am Christian".  Afterward there's a song.  Enjoy.
