Passing of the Seasons

~~ Psalm 139:7-8 (NIV) ~~  Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

Ever have one of those seasons in your life when you feel lost?  I mean it’s like you’re separated from God?  That’s where I am right now.  I’ve been there for a while.  I don’t like this feeling.  It’s very cold.

Why Do I Feel This Way?
Maybe it’s all the changes that are happening in my life right now.  I’m moving soon... into a basement apartment... in the house where my parents will also live.  Is that too close for comfort?

My Bipolar Disorder is stable, and has been for the past couple of months.  It’s a new experience really, but that’s a blog all on its own.

I’ve also finished my book.  Well, there’s still editing and publishing, but I’ve come as far as I can on this project alone.  That’s what’s been keeping me so busy lately; why I haven’t published many posts on here in the last couple of months.

Is that my problem?  I’m feeling lost without my focus being on my book?  Maybe it’s something else.  What?  I’m not sure.

The Seasons Will Pass
I remember telling Pastor once that all the sermons at our church seemed to be about me.  He said “that’s because you’re open to the Holy Spirit’s message.”  Now, I’m not feeling that so much.  Does that mean that I’m not so open anymore?  Is it normal to have seasons in your life like these?  Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 (NIV) says
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”
God Knows Where You Are
Then, I read Psalm 139:7-10 (NIV)
Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
What I’ve come to realize is that God is never lost.  If I’m feeling separated from Him, then it’s me that’s lost.  So, yes, this too shall pass.

Let’s Pray
~~ Dear God ~~ Wonderful, loving Father.  So often my attention is not focused on You, but instead on other things.  Thank You for never leaving me.  Thank You for the seasons in my life that teach me so much.  Please help me feel closer to You in everything that I say and do.  In Jesus name, AMEN.

Thank you for your beautiful, honest blog. I know what you are going through. I am grateful that most of the time my music brings me back in focus to God. Not always, but most of the time. I am a musician and play in chuch every week. I believe music is my ministry. I do know that if I'm not feeling the music, I'm out of sync with God and I don't play as well. At least that's what I believe although no one has ever said any different about my playing. Hugs

  3. I get the feeling you are in a "between" stage. You have done a lot of progressing in the previous stage, and right now you are in waiting for the next stage.

Congrats on getting such a major thing done in writing your book, Carley.

Your blog was a great blessing to me this afternoon, and put many things in to words that I have learned in the past months during a very painful period in my life. I had many changes going on at once, and learned that I had to let God orchestrate and I had to put my trust in Him for these changes as well.

    Thank you so much.

I also love your lilac picture! They are my favorite flower, and I have four lilac bushes in my back yard, with a special story for three of them!

I'm glad you realize the reality of this passage: Romans 8:35, 38-39! Transitions are a challenge since they upset the applecart of our daily routine and require the establishment of a new one. I can identify with the unsettling of moving from what has become your comfort zone to a new reality that may not be so comfortable. It is never a lot of fun but over time it can become so again..in a new and perhaps more insightful place. We are always striving to become more like the Savior who overcame it all so there is certainly hope for you and I. Keep doing your daily devotional (prayer, scripture study) and then a small service of some kind.. and you will come out on top!

Your very welcome. Come good or bad feelings or being in great health or a lot of pain, I learned a long time ago that satan tries to separate us from God through our pain and daily struggles. So whenever she felt physical pain or was struggling with day to day life , she would say and repeat it,(Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord) and she looked me in the eye and said "Who better are we to suffer a little while in this world, than when our Lord Jesus suffered so great for us and died. Let us lift Him up so that He may protect us in all things, even from satan.

Carley, I think we have all been through that feeling a few times in our lives. I love that GOD is still with us during those times even if we cannot feel HE is. I love the way you pour out your heart to HIM and I know HE loves it also. HE will show you that HE is near you, you just might have to wait on HIM.

As always I love your writings.

    GOD BLESS!
    Louise

Carley, I've been there too. Something that really helped me was when I learned that the Holy Spirit will never be vague. I trusted too much on my feelings, and often couldn't pinpoint what was wrong - but surely I had done something wrong because I didn't "feel" right. My pastor shared that if the "feeling" was from the Holy Spirit then there would also be a clear indication of what the problem was as well. He would always let me know where I had stepped off of the path so that I would know how to repent and get back on. Thank you for sharing with us. You are in my prayers. Keep that wonderful smile in your picture! Kim (from Spark People Christian Bookworms)

I am sorry you are struggling right now - will keep you in my prayers as you look for a road back to His precious arms. I have been through a period of intense, chronic pain and found that God was one of the most important anchors in my life.

I think we all go through a variety of ups and downs . . . uniquely our own while we strive to maintain an intimate, personal relationship with our Lord. I experience a change in relationships with God’s people as I have two homes and four active church families. When I’m between studies and circumstances with my many families, life changes even though I’m confident in the love, mercy, grace and compassion of God who loves us ever so much. The changes between the seasons you mention are prevalent. Congratulations on being so far along on your story in book form. I pray that we continue to grow in our relationship with God and in the way we share God with other people. Thanks for sharing your faith this way.
